In 2012, thanks to a Graduate Research Grant from Northwestern University, Ph.D. candidate Ian Saxine spent six months at the MHS library researching how different ideas about land ownership between Indians, colonists led to decades of violence in frontier Maine.
Tomorrow, Saxine will share the fruits of his research in a noontime talk at MHS entitled, “A Land Without Peace: Indians, Colonists, Speculators, and the Struggle for Maine, 1688-1763.”
This is the second of our “Student Spotlight” talks this summer. The first was on July 9 and given by Carter Stevens, a 2013 Colby College graduate. His talk on the 1863 Confederate raid into Portland Harbor drew 50 attendees. Come help make tomorrow’s just as well attended!
